Exciting new approach to the treatment of upper lip lines

Published on Apr 24th, 2018 by Jeffrey Dover, MD

Skin changes related to aging include sagging, discoloration, lack of glow and luster, and wrinkling. While some wrinkles are tolerable, vertical lip lines drive some women to distraction. These lines often remind them of their childhood when their grandmothers or great aunts’ red lipstick bled into the upper lip lines. Now they look in the mirror and see these same lines. At SkinCare Physicians, our cosmetic dermatologists have developed a comprehensive approach to improving these lip lines, including a new component to perfect the results.

SkinCare Physicians’ new upper lip lines treatment

Our approach includes using neuromodulators such as Botox and Dysport to weaken the pucker that causes the lines, filling the lines, and using new advanced laser procedures such as OMAR to smooth the lines.

Botox and Dysport

Botox and Dysport are the foundation of SkinCare Physicians’ lip treatment program. They reduce the puckering of the lip which is the major cause of these vertical lines. Slowly but surely, over months to years, the lines improve instead of getting deeper and more noticeable.

Fillers

Fillers are used in a very gentle and precise way to fill the lip lines without making the lips look full.

New OMAR laser procedure

The last component of our lip program is the use of a new laser procedure developed at SkinCare Physicians called Optimized Mechanical Ablative Rejuvenation (OMAR ). In this technique, a fractional carbon dioxide laser is used to make hundreds of tiny holes in the skin of the upper lip and the surrounding skin. Sculptra, a liquid filler, is then applied to the skin. It penetrates the multiple micro-channels created with the laser and stimulates new collagen production over a period of weeks. A total of three treatments are performed every eight weeks. The procedure is very well-tolerated using only topical anesthetic cream. The only real side effect is redness and puffiness that lasts an average of 4 to 7 days. It can be covered with makeup by the second day. Studies performed at SkinCare Physicians showed 50% improvement in the length, depth and number of these upper lip wrinkles.

We are very excited about the new SkinCare Physicians lip program combining Botox or Dysport with fillers and the new OMAR laser procedure. We now have a comprehensive way to rid these stubborn and unsightly lines from your upper lips and the surrounding skin. If you are bothered by fine lines above your lips, book a consultation with one of our cosmetic dermatologists who will design the perfect lip treatment plan for you.

Do you have any before and after pictures. Also what kind of cost. Is this something that has to be done the rest of your life.

    • Dr. Jeffrey Dover says:

The treatment costs run from $450 to several thousand dollars depending on the extent of the lines, and the extent and type of treatment. While Botox and Dysport treatments for the upper lip have to be done at least three times a year, fillers results can last one to two years. Laser treatments tend to produce more long-standing improvement -up to three sessions may be needed to achieve the best possible results. Feel free to book a consultation with one of our dermatologists to discuss the best treatment plan for your lips.
