In one of the most exciting developments in cosmetic surgery over the last few years, we now have a highly effective FDA-approved treatment, Kybella, for what is medically known as submental fat, or more commonly referred to as a double chin. Until recently, the only approach was surgical with liposuction and or a neck/face lift. While effective, these surgical measures are associated with significant downtime.
With the assistance of SkinCare Physicians dermatologists near Boston, Kythera, a California based company, has developed a simple and elegant treatment, Kybella, which improves the look of a full neck and double chin. A series of 1-4 injection sessions of deoxycholate produces dramatic improvement, with little to no downtime. The procedure takes only a few minutes and is very well tolerated. Side effects are limited to include mild discomfort, limited bruising, and occasional redness and swelling which are both limited and short-lived.
To the surprise of our dermatologists who headed the clinical studies at SkinCare Research, not only is the treatment helpful for the pocket of fat under the chin, but it also seems to tighten the skin and to give long lasting improvement.
Effective in men and women of all skin types, and a variety of ages, this new treatment will revolutionize our ability to treat double chin in a simple and effective manner. In late April 2015, the FDA approved Kybella for the treatment of submental fat or double chin. It will take a month or two for Kythera to get the product in the hands of experts like the dermatologists at SkinCare Physicians. Kythera has asked our dermatologists to help lead educational efforts of physicians around the country to ensure the proper patients selection and treatment technique.
Is your double chin more and more obvious? You now have the option to say goodbye to it and say hello to a more sculpted facial look: Kybella is available at our dermatology practice near Boston. Book a consultation with SkinCare Physicians to learn if you are a candidate for this breakthrough treatment, now FDA-approved.

How long do results last??
Kybella™ results are durable and long-lasting, and retreatment is not expected. After each treatment fat is destroyed and does not reappear. But it takes a series of 2 to 4 treatments, performed once every eight weeks, to get a pleasing result.
Every double-chin condition is unique. The cost of the procedure will depend on the amount of product used and the number of treatments needed. A consultation with one of our physicians will enable us to estimate the cost of your personalized treatment, should you be a candidate for the procedure.
