Additionally, his lecture covered how to select an appropriate biologic for a specific individual patient, and how to start and manage a patient while on therapy.

The 2016 Fall Clinical Dermatology Conference aimed to provide practicing dermatologists with a comprehensive update on the diagnosis and treatment on a variety of conditions that face these physicians on a daily basis.

Dr. Lee visiting Brattle Book Shop & trying new eateries

After many years in the Deep South, Dr. Nicole Lee has made her way back north to join us at SkinCare Physicians as one of our talented cosmetic procedural fellows. She is excited and prepared for a snowy Boston winter! Born in England and raised in Pennsylvania, Nicole spent much of her youth moving up and down the east coast for schooling. She obtained her undergraduate degree at Georgetown University before heading down south where she completed her medical education at the University of North Carolina and dermatology residency at the University of Alabama. Outside of work, Nicole is often found exploring the city of Boston as well as trying new eateries, rummaging through old books and prints at Brattle Book Shop, planning her next great escape, and attempting to fulfill a fantastical dream of becoming a sommelier.

Dr. Tom Rohrer spoke at South Africa’s dermatology congress

Dr. K. Arndt delivers the G. Robert Baler Visiting Professor lecture

G. Robert Baler Visiting Professor lectureDr. Kenneth Arndt was recently the G. Robert Baler Visiting Professor at the Boston University Department of Dermatology and delivered the G. Robert Baler Visiting Professor lecture. He was introduced by Dr. Tania Phillips.

This memorial lectureship was established by Dr. Baler’s family in recognition of his many contributions and lifetime involvement and devotion to the Boston University Department of Dermatology.  Dr. Baler has been remembered “for his exceptional dedication to teaching the next generation of dermatologists, his outstanding clinical skills and dedication to his patients, and his warm and upbeat personality.  He was a kind and gentle physician who was quick with a smile and cared deeply about his profession, his community, and above all his family”.  Six years ago Dr. Baler delivered the first Baler lecture, which he titled My Six Decades in Dermatology.  In remembrance of Dr. Baler and appreciation for his previous presentation, Dr. Arndt chose the same title for this talk, although his career in dermatology is still several years short of that landmark.

Dr. Arndt spoke about many of the areas within dermatology in which he has been involved and for which he is well known and widely appreciated. These included his involvement in publishing textbooks and medical journals, the evolution and use of lasers in medicine and dermatology, his two decade editorship of the Archives of Dermatology, information overload in medicine and dermatology, the dramatic changes in medicine and dermatology which evolved over his career, as well as his transition from a full-time academic career as Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School and Chairman of the Department at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center to the establishment with colleagues of the academic private practice SkinCare Physicians.  In the audience attending this talk were medical staff, residents, fellows and trainees from the Boston University Department, fellows from SkinCare Physicians, and guests.  Following his hour-long address Dr. Arndt then spent the following hour with further discussion and interaction with residents and trainees from the Boston University Program and discussed multiple areas within the specialty.
