Another great conference: ASLMS 2016!
The American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) held its Annual Conference, Laser 2016, last week in Boston, Mass. This event gathers the world’s top professionals who lead the way in lasers, light and energy based devices, and patient care. SkinCare Physicians’ Drs. Arndt, Dover, Kaminer and Rohrer actively participated as Chair, Director or Faculty in research presentations, teaching sessions and other activities. Also very involved were former fellows who have trained at our dermatology practice near Boston and now practice throughout the country.
Examples of topics addressed by SkinCare Physicians’ dermatologists during the conference included:
Favorite laser pearls.
Optimizing patient experience.
Laser assisted drug delivery.
Picosecond laser for facial rejuvenation using a compressed treatment interval.
Maximizing results of treatment of cutaneous conditions while minimizing complications.
ASLMS 2016 awards
One of the highlights of the conference for our practice was when Dr. Arndt and Dr. Dover received awards at the Plenary Session:
Dr. Arndt also received the ASLMS Excellence in Education Award
Don’t miss what Dr. Robert Weiss, current ASLMS President, had to say about Dr. Arndt, the “Dermatology God” at the awards ceremony:
Patient writes about her cellulite treatment for Vogue
Kate Christensen, a renowned American novelist, writes for Vogue about her experience with the Cellfina treatment for cellulite, which dermatologist Michael Kaminer, M.D. performed for her at his Boston area practice, SkinCare Physicians. She chose to consult with him because “… he was one of a team of three doctors who helped to develop the Cellfina procedure and he regularly performs it …” Her story in the April 2016 issue of Vogue reads like a novel and as smoothly as cellulite-free skin!
SkinCare Physicians’ Dr. Tania Phillips has recently received a very nice honor. She was selected to be the annual Dr. Fred Blum Visiting Professor by residents of Duke University. Dr. Phillips chose to share her expertise on wounds. She gave a lecture entitled Wound Update to over 40 faculty members of Duke University and UNC, and another one on Unusual Wounds to residents. Congratulations Dr. Phillips!

SkinCare Physicians’ Fellows, Drs. Mara Weinstein Velez and Shilpi Khetarpal, were interviewed at length by the Plastic Surgery Practice magazine for an article covering advances in tools used to detect skin cancer and melanoma. Both dermatologists weigh in on traditional tools, such as dermoscopy, and new imaging technologies that help physicians decide whether or not to biopsy suspicious moles. “Your Skin Is In” elearning program featured Dr. Robin Travers
SkinCare Physicians’ Dr. Robin Travers has been working with the Melanoma Foundation of New England (MFNE) to develop an online version of the award-winning “Your Skin Is In” program to a nationwide audience. It launched yesterday! Educators, school administrators, and high school and college students across the country can now use this melanoma education program in their classrooms with a click of a mouse!
This elearning program encourages teens and young adults to learn more about melanoma, risky sun behaviors, and how to protect their skin. Working with online educators, the MFNE developed a script for several teaching videos, along with an online curriculum and assessment protocol.
Parts of the videos were filmed in SkinCare Physicians’ offices near Boston, and feature our own dermatologist, Dr. Robin Travers.
Learn how you can be involved in Your Skin Is In progam.
If you know of any educators who might be interested in introducing this curriculum into their classrooms, please share the link with them.
