This event is considered the best meeting to learn about the latest in lasers, light and energy based devices. Five members of SkinCare Physicians had a prominent presence in the meeting, as well as colleagues throughout the country who have trained at our dermatology practice near Boston.

Five SCP physicians were involved in Laser-2014

The official purpose of the Laser 2014 conference is to “provide a forum at which a multidisciplinary array of scientists, clinicians, residents, students, health care professionals, and industry representatives can learn, share, investigate, and create ideas; the outcomes of which are clinical applications that can and have changed the world of patient care.”

According to SkinCare Physicians’ Dr. Thomas Rohrer, “the reason the annual ASLMS meeting is one of the most exciting event of the year is because more new scientific studies on the use of aesthetic lasers and energy devices are presented here than any other meeting in the world.  This meeting allows us to share our knowledge with each other and come away with more effective ways to treat our patients.”

Dr. Jeffrey Dover, who had been the president of the ASLMS for the past year, not only presided over this year’s meeting and delivered his Presidential Address, but also chaired and gave several presentations on a variety of topics including “Laser Treatment Pearls“, “Practical Approach to Pigment Lesions and Tattoos”, “Attracting Patients and Keeping Them“, “Optimizing the Excel V Laser”, and co-authored many papers presented during the meeting.  The program director for this complex conference was Dr. Murad Alam, a former fellow at SkinCare Physicians.

Dr. Kenneth Arndt was also very active in the meeting. In the section on “Laser Pearls”, he discussed “The Treatment of Difficult Pigmentation” and “The Project Heal Experience” about the treatment of patients from the Boston Marathon bombing.  In the “Pigment Removal and Vascular Treatment Course“, he spoke about “The Laser Treatment of Tattoos” and in the “Controversies Workshop“, on “The Treatment of Acne Scars“.  He also gave a short presentation on “Avoiding Pain with Laser Procedures“.  Dr. Arndt was also the co-director of a morning course titled “Expert Treatment Approaches” which he and Dr. Brian Zelickson organized and moderated.

Dr. Thomas Rohrer spoke on “The Use of Home Devices” and directed a 3-hour standalone session entitled “Tech:Connect: The Straight Talk Session.” This session was one the most highly attended of the meeting and encouraged presenters and attendees to discuss openly and frankly all of the most recent developments in laser surgery. Furthermore, Dr. Rohrer directed the workshop entitled “Controversies in Laser Energy Devices“, along with Dr. Michael Kaminer.  Dr. Rohrer also co-authored several other presentations.

In addition to being co-author on several papers, Dr. Kaminer moderated and planned the course noted above with Dr. Rohrer.

Dr. Deanne Robinson also presented several topics, including one discussing the “Response of Fungal Infection of the Nails to Laser Radiation“, and one on “Body Contouring Devices“. She also co-chaired a session on non-invasive skin tightening and fat removal, and co-authored several papers.

SkinCare Physicians’ was delighted to have not only its renowned dermatologists, but also its three current Fellows in training contribute to the ASLMS conference.

  • Dr. Laurel Morton gave five presentations in multiple venues over the several days and in a variety of courses.
  • Drs. Emily Keller and Kathryn Kent were co-authors on several papers.

Many alumni of our teaching and training program were active in the meeting including Drs. Murad Alam, Jeremy Green, Heather Hamilton, Andrei Metelitsa, Jennifer MacGregor, Jeffrey Hsu, Ashish Bhatia, and Carolyn Jacobs.  Finally, Dr. Arndt was honored to receive a Presidential citation from the president, Dr. Dover.
