Every day we are asked if there is an age that is “too early” to start preventing the skin from aging or to start on the journey for skin rejuvenation. We have been thinking about this question for years and in fact were the first to introduce and coin the term “prejuvenation,” a buzz word that has since taken off on a journey of its own. Just Google-search the word and you’ll see what we mean! What exactly is “prejuvenation?” “Prejuvenation” is the act of initiating a series of thoughtfully planned steps that will prevent or impede the changes associated … Continue reading »

Treating hair loss has been a challenge for decades. The condition is even more devastating for women who routinely asked about treating their hair thinning conditions. There is a real lack of effective therapies for men and women with pattern hair loss. Topical Rogaine (minoxidil) is only of limited help, and while taking oral Propecia (finasteride) helps to regrow hair in men it is ineffective in women. Hair transplantation is effective, but can be an expensive, surgical grafting procedure. Fortunately, the board-certified dermatologists at SkinCare Physicians have a new technique called PRP (platelet rich plasma), which is changing the way … Continue reading »
Is applying sunscreen in the morning fairly easy for you, but reapplying it during the day challenging? If so, you are not alone! As big proponents of sunscreens, the dermatologists at SkinCare Physicians are introducing their patients to a product that makes reapplying (and applying) sunscreen as easy as using lip balm. Discover Brush On Block and its unique story! Brush on Block was born from the meeting of two women who adamantly agreed that every person needs to wear sunscreen every day. One was a mother who battled daily to apply goopy sunscreen to her two young daughters. The … Continue reading »
Seborrheic keratoses (SK) are very common skin growths. They may seem worrisome as they can look like a wart or a skin cancer, but they are completely harmless and can easily be removed by our dermatologists near Boston. SK’s tend to develop in middle age or older and increase in number over time. They can be seen almost anywhere on the skin, but favor the chest, back, head and neck. SK’s typically start as small rough bumps, and slowly thicken to take on a warty surface. Classically, they have a waxy “stuck-on-the-skin” appearance. The color can range from white to … Continue reading »
Let me say this plainly and succinctly…“filler fatigue” due to repeated hyaluronic acid based injections is a hoax. There is absolutely no truth to the notion that long term use of fillers causes problems with skin laxity or integrity. Cosmetic dermatologists now have nearly two decades of data on the safety and efficacy of fillers used in the United States and around the world. At SkinCare Physicians in Chestnut Hill, MA (just outside of Boston), we pride ourselves on treating patients safely with hyaluronic acid based fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, and Belotero, and importantly these treatments have been highly … Continue reading »
Skin changes related to aging include sagging, discoloration, lack of glow and luster, and wrinkling. While some wrinkles are tolerable, vertical lip lines drive some women to distraction. These lines often remind them of their childhood when their grandmothers or great aunts’ red lipstick bled into the upper lip lines. Now they look in the mirror and see these same lines. At SkinCare Physicians, our cosmetic dermatologists have developed a comprehensive approach to improving these lip lines, including a new component to perfect the results. SkinCare Physicians’ new upper lip lines treatment Our approach includes using neuromodulators such as Botox … Continue reading »
Many of Dr. Robin Travers’ patients at SkinCare Physicians ask her if there are any vitamins or supplements they can take to improve the health of their skin. She has answered, honestly, that there aren’t many carefully controlled scientific studies that prove that vitamins have any benefit for the skin. That may be changing! In the ONTRAC (Oral Nicotinamide to Reduce Actinic Cancer) study, Australian researchers showed that nicotinamide, an inexpensive and easily available form of vitamin B3, significantly reduces the incidence of nonmelanoma skin cancers among people who have already had a basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma. … Continue reading »
