CoolSculpting takes care of your unwanted fat with no downtime

Published on Jun 25th, 2014 by Jeffrey Dover, MD

For many of us achieving our ideal body weight or desirable body shape seems like a completely unachievable goal. Until recently there were only 2 ways to trim down our waist, love handles or thighs:

  1. Either perpetual dieting and exercise.
  2. Or liposuction, a surgical procedure that, while popular and relatively commonly performed, most of us would never even consider.

A dramatic development based on a remarkably simple and elegant concept has made things much simpler: Fat is cold sensitive. As such, it can be altered and reduced without affecting the overlying skin. This fact has completely changed our approach to body contouring in our Boston-area practice and is the concept behind CoolSculpting’s technology. CoolSculpting Logo

CoolSculpting’s benefits

Developed by Harvard dermatologists and perfected in SkinCare Physicians Research Department, CoolSculpting is a simple outpatient procedure that freezes and permanently reduces localized fat with no significant side effects. Unlike many other procedures, CoolSculpting is non-surgical and has absolutely no downtime, no needles, no anesthetic, no cutting, and no post-operative care. It sounds almost too good to be true, but in this case it isn’t.

Best areas for treatment

CoolSculpting has been effective at flattening out the belly, love handles, inner thighs, and back or braline fat. Each area takes about an hour to treat and results (noticeable reduction in localized fat) are seen 2 to 4 months later. To optimize results, we have learned that several treatments to each area, performed about 2-3 months apart, are sometimes needed.

Latest technology for more body parts

New CoolSculpting technology development now enables us to treat a broader range of body parts, including the outer thighs, which is a tremendous advance in body sculpting. The new applicator, which delivers surface-based cooling, to effectively treat non-pinchable fat bulges has recently been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

While eating well and exercising regularly remains essential to good health and looking your best, we finally have a safe and effective way to achieving your desired body shape without surgery. If you are seeking to reduce unwanted fat today, schedule a CoolSculpting consultation with a dermatologist at SkinCare Physicians.

Editor’s note: This post was originally published in October 2013 and has been updated to reflect  the advances in the CoolSculpting technology.

One Response to CoolSculpting takes care of your unwanted fat with no downtime

  • Dr. Michael Kaminer says:

All skin types, from light to dark, respond identically to CoolSculpting. The real variable is fat quality and content, as well as overall shape of the treated area. People with both thick and thin skin can be treated, so the only real variable is whether patients have the right type of fat, and in the proper distribution to respond well to treatment.
